Mexico part 2

San Cristobal de la Casas
We slept terribly on the night bus. In San Cristobal we felt really cold because we had been in hot places for 8 weeks. In the morning we found a hostel and had scrambled eggs for breakfast. I had pancakes with whipped cream, cherries and chocolate sauce for lunch.
We went on a tour to indigenous villages. The first village was disappointing. The second village was more interesting. We got told that if candles were on the floor they were asking, and if they were on the table they said thank you. The guide told us about how much coca cola they drink in Mexico. When we got back we had tasty pad thai and cream yellow curry and delicious chicken satay. It was the best meal since travelling.
We had hotcakes with fresh pineapple jam for breakfast. For lunch we had scrambled eggs with delicious bacon. I had the best hot chocolate ever for dinner. I had 2 cups. Then we had to wait until 10:45pm for the long journey to Oaxaca.

Oaxaca
Dad left us at the bus station but struck out, so we caught a taxi to the central plaza. Finally dad found a rubbish hotel and the shower was terrible and it flooded the whole bathroom. For lunch we had weird chicken enchiladas with a roasted chocolate sauce (mole). We had a horrible guacamole torta.
We changed hotel to a lovely room. We went to the Oaxaca lending library and got some books out. For lunch we had battered chicken with spicy sausage and potato wedges. We had spectacular pork and pineapple tacos.
We had buffet chinese for lunch. I tried chocomilk.
We went to Monte Alban, Aztec ruins. It was brilliant. We had buffet lunch and one of the things was deep fried pork fat. It was disgusting. We had dominos pizza for dinner.
We did some terrible sightseeing. But the rest of the day was a lot better. We had amazing sorbet ice cream. I tried tequilla ice cream. I had amazing chicken soup. Then I had an intense pineapple ice lolly made of real pineapple.

Mexico City
We caught a bus to Mexico City and got security checked for weapons and it was our longest day bus journey. We caught a secure taxi because it was dangerous. Our driver was so angry because we wanted to go to the centre and now we know why because it took one and a half hours just to go 2 miles. We got to our hotel and I had to sleep on the bottom big bunk with mum, and dad slept on the top small bunk. But the beds were so creaky because of the springs. But we had a lovely chinese meal for dinner and then went to sleep. But it was a terrible night's sleep. I even said that it was my worst night's sleep ever.

Zitacuero
We left Mexico City straight away. We got up early and caught a taxi to the bus station and caught a bus to Zitacuero. We found a nice hotel and stayed there. Then we tried going to the supermarket but unfortunately we went the wrong way. But we foudn our way back in the end.
We got up early and caught a taxi to Ocampo. Our driver was a slob. When he was eating his tacos, he let the cheese fall all the way down his chin, then picked it up agina and ate it. From Ocampo we caught a rusty collectivo to El Rosario. When we got to a small village on the way, we had to take a bumpy side route which our driver was determined to take. Finally, after a long journey, we got to the monarch butterfly area. But then we had a long trek up the hill to the area with the butterflies. When we got there, the branches were creaking under the weight of the butterflies. I saved a few butterflies from being trodden on. Then we caught the collectivo and taxi back to Zitacuero.

Morelia
We caught a 2nd class bus to Morelia. It didn't have a toilet. We had burritos for lunch with refried beans and spicy chicken. Then we had bitty hot chocolate and delicious chicken soup.
We got up late and played an awesome game of table football at the fair. Then we had some weird sugar cane with pineapple sugar. You had to spit out the wood after you got the juice out. But it was tasty. We had good value chinese for lunch. Then we had strawberry and lechara (sweet milk) in crepes; they were delicious. Then we had an icy cold strawberry smoothie.
We walked all the way to the zoo. My favourite part was when we went to the reptile house. I had a delicious hawiana pizza, but my dad had a horrible hawiana torta because there was too much mayonaise.
We went to the sweet market and bought some traditional Mexican sweets. We played 33 games of table football and tried some sugar cane juice.

Guadalajara
We got up early and caught a 1st class bus to Guadalajara. On the bus, we had touch pads to play games on. We had delicious chinese for lunch. Then we found our hotel and went to sleep.
We has an amazing buffet brunch. I had cinnamon and apple pie, and pineapple pie. They were tasty, delicious and fantastic. We went to the museum and saw a woolly mammoth skeleton. Then we played an amazing game of air hockey. Next we saw and heard brilliant drumming on tins and pots.

Cancun to Palenque

Cancun
Caught bus to beach, silky sand, warm sea. We built a massive fort out of soft sand. Next I started collecting slimy seaweed. After that we had delicious fruit and pastries. Finally I played a game of catch and then we went home. We had street food in the park and watched a school dancing competition.

Isla Mujeres
We shared a taxi with a Mexican who was from Guadalajara. The taxi took us to the ferry port. On the ferry a man played a saxaphone. Isla Mujeres is very small and narrow. We went to the beach with our snorkels but it was disappointing because a net kept the fish away. We hired a golf cart for the day. We drove to the turtle farm and fed and stroked the green turtles. Then it rained cats and dogs and then we played scrabble on our balcony. On the ferry back we saw a green turtle in the ocean.

Cancun
When we got off the ferry the taxi drivers charged us rediculous prices so we caught the bus instead. We went to the park and I went on a T-Rex quad bike. We had quesadillas for breakfast. Then we had to tiptoe through the the puddles to the bus station and we got soaked!

Valladolid
We arrived on a 1st class ADO bus at Valladolid and stayed at a colourful hotel with a pleasant roof terrace.
We got up early and caught a 2nd class Mayad bus to Coba. We hired bikes and looked round all the ruined Mayan temples. Then we climbed the highest Mayan temple in Yucatan. We just missed the bus, so we sat down in a restaurant and had a drink then waited for the bus.
We visited Chitchen Itza. All of the Mayan ruins were roped off, which was annoying. There were hundreds of stalls everywhere, and I bought a statue of Chitchen Itza at a stall, and then we caught the bus back.
We had a relaxing day. We went to the Mexican barbers and they did a thorough job, and used Tequilla on my neck. Later we went to the internet cafe.

Merida
We caught an ADO bus to Merida. Then we caught a taxi to the plaza and my dad went to find a hotel. It wasn't the greatest hotel in the world. When we looked at other hotels they were the same. We had biscuits and ice cream for tea.
At breakfast I had sopa de lima, turkey soup from Yucatan. We did lots of walking but there isn't much to see in Merida. We had a horrible chinese for lunch. A lovely man gave me an old Mexican coin for free.

Campeche
We caught the ADO bus to Campeche. We had a tasty torta for lunch and I had delicious chicken fajitas. Campeche is nicer than Merida because it is cleaner, not as crowded and safer.
We went up on Campeche fort walls and learnt about the cruel pirates. Later we went to the Mega shopping mall and I bought some hot wheels cars. We ate traditional Mexican food at a fancy restaurant. The food was excellent.
We took a long, tiring walk along the Malacon to a fort which we didn{t go into because it was up a steep hill. On the way back we went into a really modern shopping arcade. We had buffet chinese which was ok tasting. After dark we watched a spectacular sound and light show.
We walked along the Malacon again but we turned round because it was too hot and sunny. When we went to an internet cafe, a man was dancing around with headphones on. In the afternoon we got ripped off by McDonalds because the Oreo cone didn't taste of Oreo.

Palenque
We took our longest bus journey so far. It took 6 hours to get to Palenque. In the dark, we had TopiTacos. They were delicious.
We went to Palenque ruins. We climbed most of them and went inside a Mayan pyramid. I haggled hard for a leather purse and a Myana calendar from a souvenir stall.
We had a TopiTacos platter for breakfast. It was absolutely delicious. We left our room at 12 noon, and had to wait nine and a half hours for our night bus. We went to Chedraui and played cards for 3 hours. We had Burger King for dinner.

Cuba

It was mainly eating!

View Thomas's Great Adventure on edandsuet's travel map.

Day 1
We caught the bus to the airport. I was starving! We flew to Cuba. I had the worst snack ever on the plane; A PACKET OF CRISPS! We were desperate for food and drink and finally found a bar to buy pizza and water. My Dad was robbed. It was a bad start.

Day 2
We spent 3 and a half hours walking, trying to find a supermarket. We we found the supermarket, we were hassled by hustlers and over charged for a drink of pineapple. In the afternoon I met the owner's son, Emile, who is 9 years old. I played with him and his friends in the building and the lifts.

Day 3
We went to Old Havana and changed some money without being robbed. We had two different peso icecreams. The second was nicer. In the afternoon I played with my friend on his ipad.

Day 4
Went to the fruit market but it was tiny with only 1 stall and nothing that looked nice. Went to Copellia's for icecream. It wasn't as nice as the peso icecream.

Day 5
We travelled in a taxi for 6 hours to get to Trinidad and there was only one stop. We got to Trinidad and our room was grim and the bed was rock hard.

Day 6
We changed hotel. We went to the beach and built Skull Island and played with coconuts. I had a lovely bowl of ham and spaghetti.

Day 7
Walked round Trinidad and did an amazing tour (my dad's). I had the same meal and then we played MarioKart 7.

DSC00837.jpg

Day 8
We went to the beach and built an amazing race track. Then we had our lunch and there was a amassive thunderstorm and then I played catch with my dad.

Day 9
Caught a Viazul bus and it was horrible because of the stinky seats. We arrived in Cienfuegos and dad and me were ill. It was dad's birthday.

Day 10
Cienfuegos is the nicest part of Cuba. We went to a new hotel and the Cubans were very friendly. We had a tasty pizza and thenwent to bed.

Day 11
We went to the clinic and got my dad some medicine. Afterwards we watched a man fish. He was very good, like Robson Green extreme fishing.

Day 12
We had a fruit cocktail breakfast. Then I had 4 scoops of icecream and it was tasty. We had honey roasted chicken which was delicious. I had a lemonada which was bright green from a street vendor.

Day 13
We caught a taxi back to Old Havana and we had it all to ourselves. Then we had a delicious chinese lunch consisting of lemonchicken, noodles, white rice, and chilli chicken. Next we had ham pizza which was very greasy.

Day 14
We had a lovely breakfast and then we went back to Clarito's. Then we had lunch. I had fried chicken. Finally when we went back there was a power cut while we were playing Mario Kart.

Day 15
We had breakfast, then walked for 3 hours, and then had lunch. I had hawaian pizza. At 6 o'clock I had 10 scoops of icecream.

Day 16
We had a really boring day at the airport. Then we got the aeroplane and landed in Mexico. Next we had limonada which was delicious.

Thomas's top 10:

1 Discovery Cove
I had the best day of my life at the dazzling Discovery Cove. We had brilliant buffet food and drink all day long. We stayed there for the maximum time, over 10 hours. The best bit was the dolphin swim where the dolphin carried me across the water and onto the other side. I had lots of amazing animal encounters , I touched a rough ray, I touched a slow sloath and an armoured armadillo, I fed a cockatiel and gave a fish to the dolphin.

2 Simpsons 3D ride - awesome, we went on this 2 times

3 Sheikra rollercoaster - vertical drop, incredible, 3 times

4 Kong 3D ride - bought a Kong cuddly, 2 times

5 Harry Potter 3D ride - my mum and dad's favourite ride, 3 times

6 Spider Man 3D ride - amazing, 3 times

7 Pixar Shorts 3D film - very funny

8 Manta rollercoaster - hang flat like a manta, 2 times

9 Toy Story Mania 3D ride - shooting toys, 3 times

10 Fantasmic show - spectacular

Bottom 1

1 night in Motel 6 (hotel). It was terrible! The corridor and our room smelt musty, there was a noisy vent in our room and it was infested with cockroaches. The best part of the day was when I bought 2 mini mouses and we also ate some lovely food, Del Taco for lunch and Dennys for tea.
